It all started with a Facebook post...
After having moved here alone from the US, I started Lyric Opera Berlin as the collaborative effort Opera Vino in early 2015. The goal was to reach new audiences of all ages, and bring singers together in a safe and fun space for us to share our passion. The problem was, I didn't know anyone in Berlin! I posted in a Facebook group asking if anyone would like to work on concerts and productions together, and the response I got back was overwhelming!
We knew we wanted to sing, and we wanted our music to affect people. We wanted
to inspire our same passion for opera. We scoured the city for intimate venues with
character (and lots of alcohol!), and found an incredible wine bar (OOH THE WINE!)
which had just opened that same month. It was our future home: Facciola!
We were just starting out, they were just staring out... They took a chance on us. We even sang a cappella for them at our first business meeting! Needless to say, they loved it, and we began hastily planning. We organized our first concert, and an astounding 60 people showed up!
That's a lot of wine!
Since those first days, we've had many successful concerts featuring over 50 artists from all corners of the globe. Our concerts give people a unique perspective into the magic of opera...you're never more than a stone's throw away! The intimacy breathes new life into the stories, and gives artists the opportunity to find deeper meaning in the music through human connection.
We'd met a lot of great people, and we'd had a LOT of fun. So we decided to grow!
Our first full one-act opera was Mozart's Der Schauspieldirektor in August of 2016.
To be sure, we were hesitant; it was the biggest project yet and not easy! But,
with an incredible cast and the support of our public... it was a roaring success!
Given the demand, Opera Vino will be in more venues and varieties starting in 2017. We are even producing our first opera, L'elisir d'amore! We hope you'll take the journey with us. Cabaret Opera VINO
We are a new organization in Berlin bringing the divas and drama of opera from the stuffy stage to the rowdy pub(lic). Not familiar with opera? Then we want you! Come laugh with us, drink with us, experience some professional singing, and let us blow your mind! You'll be begging for more! Plus, we're convinced that booze makes us sing better. It's scientifically proven*. Really!

What an incredibly talented group of singers and great way to make opera accessible for people who don't get to go to the theater often.
That last event was such good time and I can't wait to see (hear) what's next! This is a fun way to spend a night out, and get a little culture at the same time!
